What is Dual Enrollment?

High school juniors and seniors, who are residents of the State of Vermont and enrolled in a publicly funded high school, are eligible for up to two vouchers for college courses. Students must apply for a voucher for the semester they wish to enroll in a dual enrollment course. Students who attend an independent high school and are not tuitioned by their home district are not eligible for a voucher. The college credits dual enrolled students earn are part of their permanent NU transcript, and these courses begin to satisfy degree requirements toward a Norwich degree. These credits are transferable to most colleges.

Cost

The tuition is covered by the State of Vermont voucher, however students are responsible for costs such as textbooks, school supplies, and lab fees. A free parking pass is provided for Dual Enrollment students who fill out the parking pass application.

Norwich University Dual Enrollment Timeline

  1. Application is reviewed by Admissions Counselor
  2. If accepted, Admissions Counselor will send email with next steps and introduce Academic Advisor
  3. Academic Advisor will reach out to review which class fit student’s schedule
  4. After deciding on a class, student applies for State of Vermont voucher
  5. Guidance Counselor approves State of Vermont voucher
  6. Academic Advisor verifies State of Vermont voucher and student is registered for class

What is Early College?

The Early College Program at NU allows Vermont high school seniors, from publicly funded high schools, to enroll full-time at NU. Students who attend an independent high school and are not tuitioned by their home district are not eligible for the ECP. The Early College Program allows students to complete high school diploma requirements while taking a full year of college classes in any discipline. The college credits ECP students earn are part of their permanent NU transcript, and these courses begin to satisfy degree requirements toward a Norwich degree. These credits are transferable to most colleges.

Lifestyles

By default, all Early College Program students are commuters which means they live at home and come to campus for class. Students do have the option to live on campus as a Civilian student or as a Corps of Cadets student. To be in the Corps, students will need to let their Admissions Counselor know after they have been accepted. They will inform the Commandant’s Office who will set up an interview with the student and their family. After the interview is conducted the Commandant’s Office will let the Admissions Counselor know if the student was granted a waiver to be in the Corps of Cadets. The student will be informed of the decision through phone call or email from the Admissions Counselor. Students will be responsible for the costs associated with living on campus if they choose that lifestyle.

Students are responsible for any cost after tuition listed in the breakdown below. Student must also be aware of in-direct costs such as textbooks, school supplies, lab fees, gas, car maintenance, etc.

Financial Assistance

Early College Program students may apply for assistance through VSAC by completing the Vermont State Loan Application. In order for Early College students to be considered for the Vermont State Grant and/or textbook stipend, students need to complete the online FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and VSAC Incentive Grant application. Although high school students are not eligible for federal grants or loans, VSAC uses the FAFSA to make state-based awards. Please contact VSAC for more information at (800)-642-3177.
