Reconstructing History from our Natural World
2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Laurie Grigg will explore how pollen and leaf wax remains preserved in lake sediment can be used to reconstruct past climate change in Vermont and in other parts of the northeast. The lessons learned from these mud-encased proxies reveal the long-term evolution of our modern climate.
3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Zachary Bennett will speak about his recently published article, “Canoes of Great Swiftness: Rivercraft and War in the Northeast.” His research examines how Wabanakis used birchbark canoes to thwart attempts to colonize their homeland in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

Constructing and Deconstructing Books
10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

11:00 – 12:00 noon
Tolya Stonorov will speak about her recently published book FABRIC[ated] Fabric Innovation and Material Responsibility in Architecture. She will unpack the process of submitting a book proposal and highlight the challenges and positives of researching and assembling an edited book.
