“A Gentle Introduction to the Continuum Hypothesis, Part 2”

Many people are aware of the paradigm shift that occurred in physics in the early twentieth century. Lesser known are the changes in mathematics that happened at the same time. We will discuss how Georg Cantor stumbled upon the need to invent a new kind of mathematical object, and the perplexing questions that arise when we try to understand Cantor’s new mathematics.

Please join the Mathematics Department at 2pm on Wednesday November 1st, in U295 for the second part of Professor Holshouser’s Colloquium talk entitled, “A Gentle Introduction to the Continuum Hypothesis, Part 2”. Please note that a summary of part I will be provided for those who missed the first talk.
