About
Commander Tom Placek is from Buford, GA and attended Georgia Southern University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
Commander Placek earned his commission from Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island on December 19th, 2007, as a Surface Warfare Officer.
CDR Placeks’ division officer tours include USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51) and USS DWEIGHT D. EISENHOWER in Norfolk, VA. During these tours CDR Placek qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer and qualified as a Nuclear Engineer in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
Following a shore duty assignment at Navy Operational Support Center Atlanta, CDR Placeks’ completed operational tours as the Combat Systems Officer on USS ANCHORAGE (LPD 23), Reactor Training Assistant on USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH (CVN 77), Executive Officer of SAM RAYURN (MTS 635), and the C5I Officer on USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7). CDR Placek completed 3 deployments across 5th and 6th Fleet Areas of Responsibility.
