About

Edo Schreuders was born and raised in the Netherlands, but Berlin has been his home since 2003. His studies took him from Amsterdam to Berlin, where he graduated with a master’s degree in Modern European History, with a special focus on Germany, and a master’s degree in social and political philosophy. His primary focus is on Germany in the twentieth century, memorial culture, and the politics of memory in postwar Europe.

In addition to teaching, Schreuders works as a historian and researcher. He is professionally involved with various museums and educational institutions, including the Berlin Wall Foundation and the Berlin Hohenschönhausen Memorial, East Germany's former Stasi Prison. He recently served as a research assistant for the major international exhibition The Berlin Wall: Living in a Divided World and contributed to the Geschichtsmeile Berliner Mauer "Berlin Wall History Mile," a project that aims to visualize the history of the Cold War within Berlin's urban landscape through plaques and information boards set along the historical route of the Berlin Wall. Schreuders is presently engaged in a research project on the history of the Volkspolizei, East Germany's police.
