About
Heather Porter received her M.S. in Criminal Justice from Eastern Kentucky University [EKU] and a B.S. in Psychology from EKU focusing on Police Administration.
As an undergraduate Honors Scholar achieving recognition on the EKU Dean’s List and in the Who’s Who Among Students in American College and Universities, Porter supports student success with current scientific research and empathy. She is an often-sought-after advisor and mentor by students seeking careers in Criminal Justice and Psychology.
Throughout her career both in teaching and research, Porter has displayed a keen sense of insight into understanding of the criminal mind and applying its principles to real-world applications. Her research accomplishments and interests include Profiling, Gender Issues in Policing, False Confessions, Criminal Investigation, Social Psychology and Criminal Justice, Student Incivility, The Kentucky Innocence Project, and Community Policing Programs.
Subject areas frequently taught at Norwich include the fundamentals of psychology, theories of personality, abnormal and criminal behavior, and the applications of forensic psychology and psychological principles to law.
Research interests include criminal investigative and profiling methods, nonverbal communication and lie detection, and statement analysis.
She is an active member of the Norwich Community as a mentor and academic advisor for student internships, honors thesis work, and independent study courses. In addition, she is a Co-Advisor for Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology, and a frequent contributor to the Norwich University Wellness Center. More recently, Porter taught for NU’s affiliate study abroad program in Chengdu, China.
