Norwich University’s School of Architecture + Art presents Tooling for Impact: Doing more, with more, with less by Dr. Nathan King, a design educator and technology guru in the fields of architecture and construction.

Nathan King

Dr. Nathan King is an Assistant Professor of Architecture + Design and Co-Director of the Center for Design Research (CDR) at Virginia Tech. Dr. King has numerous teaching credits under his belt, including the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, RISD, and the University of Innsbruck’s Institute for Experimental Architecture. Dr. King also boasts the position of Industrialized Construction Lead for Autodesk Research. He applies research and testing collaborations with a focus in construction and automation technologies.

His previous experience as Director at MASS Design Group informs his current research in the development of modern building technologies, medical devices, and evaluation methods for application in locations across the globe where resources are limited. Dr. King had a crucial role in the development of the Autodesk BUILD Space in Boston, which was awarded the Charles Pankow Award for Innovation by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). King also establishes his place as a renowned author, lecturing with his 2015 book Ceramic Material Systems in Architecture and Interior Design, a collaboration with Martin Bechthold and Anthony Kane.

Dr King is largely responsible for catalyzing the development of the Virginia Tech CDR, complete with a robotics studio and laboratory. These facilities allow meticulous collaboration between students and faculty, as well as support industry collaboration and research.

Norwich University’s School of Architecture + Art is the only National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB)-accredited architecture school in Vermont and one of only two in northern New England.
