Cybersecurity & Advanced Technology

Protect critical information and technology in a world driven by data.

Cybersecurity protects the digital world we rely on every day. From securing medical records to defending national infrastructure, the work keeps critical systems safe and running. You’ll study how threats emerge and practice the skills to stop them before they cause harm. Your training combines computer science with hands-on practice in labs, simulations, and cyber competitions where you put your knowledge to the test. Faculty guide you in small classes, challenging you to think critically, solve problems, and communicate results clearly.

Recognized as a National Security Agency Center of Academic Excellence for more than 25 years, Norwich gives you the experience and resources to graduate ready for one of the fastest-growing careers worldwide.

Key Information:

What is Cybersecurity?

Cybersecurity is the defense of technology and information against attack.
The field spans everything from protecting national defense systems to securing medical data, financial networks, and personal devices. In this field, you’ll study how attacks happen, why systems fail, and what it takes to keep them secure. The work demands technical skill, sharp analysis, and the ability to adapt quickly in a world where threats evolve every day.

Why choose Cybersecurity and Advanced Technology?
A bachelor’s degree goes beyond a certificate by offering deeper knowledge and a wider range of skills. You’ll build a foundation in coding, mathematics, and computer science while strengthening your ability to think critically and solve complex challenges.

Students who thrive in this field are curious about technology, eager to analyze problems, and motivated to protect people, organizations, and communities. Norwich is one of the few universities recognized nationally as both a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education and a Center of Digital Forensics Academic Excellence, giving your degree lasting value in a competitive market.

What can I do with a Cybersecurity degree?
A degree in cybersecurity prepares you to step into one of the fastest-growing fields. You might work to protect a hospital’s patient data, investigate cybercrime with a government agency, or help a company recover after an attack. Some graduates focus on analyzing threats and stopping them before they spread, while others design secure networks and systems that organizations rely on every day.

Whatever direction you choose, your training gives you the ability to make a direct and measurable impact on the safety of people, businesses, and national infrastructure. Norwich also offers an accelerated master’s option, allowing you to continue your studies and move into advanced technical or leadership roles.

Life as a Norwich Cybersecurity Student

Cybersecurity challenges you to think like both a defender and an attacker. Classes are small, and professors guide you closely as you move from learning core skills to applying them in labs, simulations, and competitions. Your knowledge expands year by year, from the fundamentals of computer science to advanced study in forensics and information assurance. By the time you reach your final year, you’ll have experience in both concentrations and be ready to begin your career.

Program Breakdown by Year

Year 1:
Build your foundation in computer science and mathematics.
Courses in programming, networks, and liberal arts help you understand how systems work and where vulnerabilities appear.

Year 2:
Labs and group projects give you the chance to test ideas and apply knowledge in real time.
By the spring semester, you’ll choose a concentration in Cybersecurity or Forensics, with the flexibility to pursue both.

Year 3:
Advanced coursework challenges you to apply your skills in complex environments.
The Cybersecurity track takes you into defense strategies, threat analysis, and operations management. Choosing the Forensics track develops expertise in digital evidence and investigative techniques. Competitions, internships, and research opportunities connect your work to the demands of the field.

Year 4:
Senior-level study prepares you for your transition into professional practice.
A capstone project or internship allows you to demonstrate your abilities in a real-world setting. By graduation, you’ll be ready to begin your cybersecurity career with both technical expertise and practical experience.

Continued Study: Accelerated Master's in Cybersecurity
While completing your undergraduate degree, you can get a head start on graduate study through the Accelerated Master's Pathway. Apply upper-level coursework toward graduate credit and finish your master's in as little as 12-18 months after graduation, all online. Earning a Master's in Cybersecurity positions you to move into leadership roles and pursue advanced expertise in areas such as forensics, policy, or advanced technical research.
