Mountain Cold Weather Company (MCW)
Dare to step outside your comfort zone at Norwich University's Mountain Cold Weather Battalion.
Climb to Conquer
The mission of the Mountain and Cold Weather Company (MCW) is to train and develop Norwich cadets in all disciplines of mountaineering, leadership and survival and the tactics of military mountaineering, small-unit patrolling and reconnaissance in compliance with standards issued by the U.S. Army and the American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA).
Founded in 1947 and once titled the Mountain and Winter Warfare Program, MCW has grown and evolved over time. However, what hasn't changed is our commitment to training cadets to reach their potential as mountain combat soldiers using military mountaineering techniques and small-unit patrolling tactics.
From climbing, rappelling, skiing, snowshoeing to learning to manage tactical operations at elevation in subzero temperatures, cadets emerge ready for duty and adventure. The Mountain and Cold Weather Company strives to produce exceptional leaders by applying a regimen of rigorous physical and technical training, upholding high standards of physical fitness and mental and technical aptitude and affording a variety of experiences in high-angle, alpine and extreme cold weather environments.
