Jeffry Casey

eff Casey is assistant professor of theatre and director of theatre. He directs the Pegasus Players, Norwich’s student theatre company. He teaches courses in theatre, public speaking, film studies, gender studies, and refugee studies.

Jeff is an interdisciplinary scholar, working across the fields of theatre, media, and gender studies. His scholarly articles have appeared in Theatre Topics, Quarterly Review of Film and Video, and Ecumenica. One of his primary fields of interest is gender and sexuality in contemporary performance and media, specifically how male friendships and how misogynistic violence are depicted. He also studies how Arabs, Arab-Americans, and refugees are depicted in English-language theatre and performance.

Jeff is a playwright, producer, and director and has recently directed the musical Cabaret, Harold Pinter’s Party Time, and a staged reading of Issam Mahfouz’s The Dictator. He regularly produces Norwich’s student theatre festivals and the semi-annual spoken word event Norwich Voices for International Women’s Day. His original plays and performance work have been featured at UW-Madison’s University Theatre Open Stages, the UW Arts Institute’s Inside Story Festival, Mercury Players Theatre, and the Marcia Légère Play Festival. His site-specific performance piece Odd Coupling, a Discourse on Friendship with Occasional Reference to Michel de Montaigne was part of the 2013 Wisconsin Triennial.

Jeff grew up in rural West Texas. He studied English and philosophy the University of Texas at Austin, where he also earned an MA in creative writing. He holds a doctorate in Interdisciplinary Theatre Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is an avid fan of Dungeons & Dragons, tacos, classic country music, jazz albums from 1958, podcasts, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and hiking in Vermont.
