Alden Partridge Army ROTC Scholarship

The Alden Partridge Army ROTC Scholarship is named after the legacy of our founder and is available to three-year Army ROTC scholarship recipients.

The scholarship pays the full cost of room and board for your first year at Norwich, before your Army contract begins. You pay the cost of uniform, books, and medical insurance, if needed.

The General I.D. White Scholarship

In addition to the Alden Partridge Army ROTC Scholarship, which is awarded during the freshman year, all students who receive the Army ROTC three-year scholarship (which covers room and board) will also be awarded the General I.D. White Scholarship, which will cover the cost of room and board for the remaining three years of study.

The General I.D. White Scholarship has an annual value of approximately $15,000.

The Citizen Soldier and the Legacy of Leadership

Captain Alden Partridge graduated from Dartmouth College and the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he served as superintendent. After leaving West Point, Captain Partridge founded Norwich University in 1819. He believed that military training was essential for the creation of “moral, patriotic, efficient, and useful citizens.” It coined the phrase "Citizen Soldier." This term referred to his idea of a well-rounded soldier, well-educated and ready for times of war and peace.

Norwich University is the oldest private military college in the United States and the birthplace of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC). We have produced some of the most highly decorated military leaders in the history of this country. Norwich University continues in the tradition of our founder as we seek to identify and promote students who are committed to leadership and service.
