Cathy Frey

About
Cathy Frey is a professor of mathematics, who specializes in actuarial science, numerical analysis, and number theory.
A third-generation Vermonter, Cathy Frey was born in Barre, Vermont. Frey joined the Norwich faculty in 1985 and is the former chair of the mathematics department (2002-2006) and dean of the College of Science and Mathematics (2006-2013). She also served as the vice chair of the faculty senate (2003-2006, 2014-2017) and as chair of the Faculty Senate (2017-2023).
She earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science at the University of Vermont and has completed all exams necessary to become an associate in the Society of Actuaries.
After earning her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree at the University of Vermont, she joined the Norwich faculty in 1985 (being promoted to associate professor and tenured in 1991, and promoted to full professor in 2001). With research interests in the areas of actuarial science and mathematics education, Cathy particularly enjoys creating instructional modules for the web. Beyond Norwich, Cathy has served on the Vermont Commission on Women from 2006-2015 and was the recipient of the Vermont Women in Higher Education Jackie Gribbons Award for Leadership in 2008.
