About

Colonel Kelly Burt is the Commander and Professor of Aerospace Studies for Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Detachment 867 at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. He also serves as the Dean of the College of National Services. In these roles, Col Burt leads a cadre of instructors in recruiting, educating, training, and professionally developing nearly 150 cadets aspiring to commission as officers in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force.

Prior to this assignment, Col Burt was the Director for Operations and Plans for U.S. Space Forces–Space, performing duties as the staff for United States Space Command’s Combined/Joint Force Space Component Commander. He led a team of 98 in support of the Commander’s tactical control of more than 70 combat units and the direction of five joint centers executing satellite communications, navigation warfare, missile warning and tracking, space domain awareness, orbital warfare, and space electronic warfare missions.

Col Burt entered the Air Force in July 1996 and transitioned to the Space Force in December 2020. A career space operator, he has served in assignments at the squadron, wing, functional air and space component, sub-unified and combatant command, and service headquarters levels. His assignments include installations in Wyoming, California, Arizona, the District of Columbia, Alabama, Maryland, Virginia, Nebraska, and New Mexico. Prior to his current role, he was Director of Operations and Plans for Space Forces–Space at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
