Miriam Romero
- Adjunct Professor of Spanish
About
Born in South Texas and raised in Mexico, Dr. Miriam Romero offers a binational lens that informs both her scholarship and her teaching. As a heritage speaker of Spanish, her research focuses on the Mexico–United States borderlands as a dynamic and evolving space where language, culture, and human experience converge and influence one another. With a specialization in Latin American literature and border studies, she explores how literary texts from the region complicate and redefine traditional understandings of identity, nationhood, and cultural belonging.
Dr. Romero’s dedication to research is equally reflected in her commitment to teaching and service. She prioritizes collaborative language learning and meaningful communicative engagement, cultivating an inclusive and interactive classroom environment. Guided by ACTFL standards, she develops interdisciplinary courses that integrate authentic materials and technology to strengthen linguistic proficiency and deepen cultural awareness. Beyond the classroom, she has contributed actively to departmental and university initiatives through leadership positions, conference planning, and involvement in literary and academic honor organizations.
