MAJ Michael W. Simpson

Maj. Michael W. Simpson is the executive officer of Army ROTC at Norwich University. He enlisted in the Army on May 15, 2005, in Boulder, Colorado, as a cannon crewmember and served with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, at Fort Hood, Texas. He deployed to Balad, Iraq, from 2006 to 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Commissioned as a field artillery second lieutenant in October 2007 after Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, he completed the Field Artillery Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and then served on the schoolhouse faculty, teaching platoon leader operations. He later served as battalion fire support officer for 4th Battalion, 2nd Aviation Regiment (Attack) at Camp Humphreys, Korea; completed the Field Artillery Captains Career Course; and served as a fire direction officer in the 17th Fires Brigade at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

After transferring to logistics, he commanded Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1395th Deployment and Distribution Support Battalion, and Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 13th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion at JBLM. At Fort Shafter, Hawaii, he served as S4, 8th Military Police Brigade; deputy G4, 8th Theater Sustainment Command; support operations officer, AFSBn-HI; and support operations officer, 402nd Army Field Support Brigade. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Colorado and is Airborne and Air Assault qualified.
