Plot YOUR Path To In-Demand Careers With Norwich
Let us show you some of the pathways to the hottest careers that the Navy, Marines, and civilian workforce have to offer.
NAVAL AVIATION
Navy Option Midshipmen selected for aviation will report to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, where they will first complete the Naval Introductory Flight Evaluation Program (NIFE). Afterward, they will begin the Student Naval Aviator (SNA) or Student Naval Flight Officer (SNFO) training pipelines. Upon successful completion of flight school, they will earn the prestigious “Wings of Gold.” At that point, Naval Aviators will incur an eight-year commitment, and Naval Flight Officers will incur a six-year commitment, as they advance to their specific aircraft assignments.
SUBMARINE OFFICER
Midshipmen may commission into the Nuclear Navy as Submarine Officers. Before commissioning, they must pass a technical interview at Nuclear Reactors. Upon passing, they earn a $30,000 bonus and receive a scholarship if not already on one. Once commissioned, officers report to the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC) and then to the Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU), where they learn both the theoretical and operational aspects of nuclear reactors. After training, they embark on a sea tour aboard a submarine. Ensigns may serve on a Fast Attack Submarine, conducting cutting-edge missions; a Guided Missile Submarine, which carries 154 Tomahawk missiles and supports special forces missions; or a Ballistic-Missile Submarine, upholding the Naval leg of the Nuclear Triad to maintain global political stability.
EOD
The Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Force is responsible for disarming, rendering safe, and disposing of explosive devices. This community is composed of highly trained personnel dedicated to their unique and dangerous mission of protecting lives. Midshipmen pursuing a career in EOD will participate in specialized summer training after their junior year. If selected, they will undergo an intense training pipeline post-commissioning to join this small, close-knit, and highly valued community.
SURFACE WARFARE
Surface Warfare is a crucial community within the Navy tasked with deploying the surface fleet’s ships in missions like forward naval presence, sea control, and power projection. As a Surface Warfare Officer, your role is to steer your ship on mission and ensure success by clearly communicating goals to your crew. You’ll also oversee the daily essentials of training, maintenance, and personnel management. If you aspire to command a Naval ship as a Captain one day, this is the path that will get you there.
MARINE GROUND
Midshipmen can receive a Ground contract in either the Active or Reserve forces during their time in the NROTC Battalion. Once they graduate and commission, they will attend The Basic School (TBS) located in Quantico, VA, after which they will be assigned their specialty. The designator “Ground”, means that the individual can be assigned to any ground related MOS within the Marine Corps.
MARINE AIR
Midshipmen who receive Air Contracts will also attend TBS but must then attend follow-on flight school in Pensacola, Florida where they will receive selection for their specific aircraft platform. In order to receive an Air contract, Midshipmen must first pass the Aviation Selection Test Battery. Board Selected MOS While in the program, Marine option Midshipmen can also submit a package to apply for either a Cyber or Law MOS. These Midshipmen’s packages will be presented to a board and they will be compared to other Marine option Midshipmen across the nation.
MARINE LAW
Those who are selected for the Law MOS will commission and continue their education to obtain a Law Degree. In order to apply for a Law Contract, Midshipmen must pass the LSAT with a 150 or higher and be accepted to a Law School. After they have obtained their Law Degree and passed the Bar Exam, Law Contracted Officers will report to The Basic School (TBS).
MARINE CYBERSPACE OPERATIONS
Those who are selected for the Cyber MOS will commission, report to The Basic School (TBS) and conduct follow on training at Ft. Gordon in Augusta, GA. From satellites to tracking systems, your work will play a critical role in mission planning to ensuring our cyberspace capabilities.
SEALs
The Navy SEALs are an elite special operations force tasked with executing some of the most challenging and high-stakes missions. SEALs are trained to operate in all environments—sea, air, and land—and are renowned for their exceptional physical and mental toughness. Midshipmen aspiring to join this prestigious community will undergo a rigorous selection process during the summer after their junior year. If selected, they will enter an intensive training pipeline post-commissioning to earn their place among this small, highly skilled, and tightly knit team, celebrated for their unmatched commitment and effectiveness.
